How did someone write a reconciliation report and not have a chapter on forgiveness?
In my experience, forgiveness is part of reconciliation.
It might be acceptance of what happened, he shoplifted. I accept that. Or it might be a higher level of forgiveness, an explanation of why it happened; he had a deprived childhood with poor parenting. Or even more profound, it might be forgiveness rooted in love.
Either way, to the aboriginal, indigenous Indians of Canada, we have said we are sorry, we have paid billions of dollars, and we have corrupted our symbols and language. Now I ask, please forgive us. Let us be reconciled.
Truth and reconciliation must be more honest about truth…on both sides
So true, so true
