Separation is not desired, but it is an option.
I don’t want to separate from Ontario and Quebec, but to quote a Quebec separatist leader, “I do want a new relationship.”
And let’s be clear, that new relationship will mean Ontario and Quebec have less influence, control and taking power. It will mean less money and power for them.
We have asked for this in the past, they refused. The Laurentians don’t want that outcome. There has to be some incentive. We are already giving; there is no further positive incentive we can provide. That only leaves negative incentives, and the best is our threat to leave.
I don’t want to leave; it is the last thing that I want, literally. But if something does not change, I am open to that possibility.
