The Democratic Presidential candidate opposing Lincoln in his second election campaigned on the need for slavery to be protected. His speeches reflected a fear of “negro violence” and promised that if Lincoln were elected the “negro would be freed to roam the land and cause mayhem and destruction.” How can anyone from BLM countenance such a history and litany of racism and hatred.
