Canadian Constitution Foundation, making a difference

The Canadian Constitution Foundation is a powerful influence in the Canadian legal community.

Canadian Constitution Foundation cases like the Cambie Medical case are important enough to warrant respect and admiration.  These cases are both media-grabbing and exciting.

But the Foundation’s other work, deep in the trenches of constitutional law, sponsoring the Runnymede Society in law schools and hosting top legal conferences, are neither exciting nor media-grabbing.  And the results of these deeper cases are equal in impact to its higher-profile work.

The attached article in the Globe and Mail highlights the Foundation’s deep work.  Joanna Baron and her team are winning long-term victories for Canadian freedom in all constitutional interpretation cases.

It is one thing to secure a victory in one case. But we have been securing victories in the interpretation of the constitution, which will apply in all cases.

Feed a man a fish and he will eat for a day.
Teach him to fish and he will eat for life.

Win a case and you free a person.
Change how the court approaches the constitution
and you free a nation.

I am involved with our outstanding Board of Directors, stellar staff and a cadre of leading lawyers who donate time to this effort.  We are moving the needle on foundational elements of the law in Canada. And moving it in the right direction.

The attached article is long, but you will enjoy the 10 minutes required for a good read.  Then consider supporting the CCF and passing this note on to your friends.
