At the unveiling of a new environmental law, I gained insight into the environmentalist mindset. The speaker proudly announced the legislation and added, “Finally, we have some legislation with teeth.”

There was a tone of pride and happiness in his speech.
This joyful celebration of statutory carnivorism replaced the speaker’s focus on collaboration and consensus, virtues the speaker said he held so dear.
If you value collaboration and consensus, why do you need teeth?
When I collaborate with people, and we reach a consensus, I don’t need teeth. When we truly value and live these virtues, things flow smoothly and effortlessly.
I saw in that moment a truth: these environmentalists were ugly, carnivorous creatures. They were not friendly, respectful folk. They spoke about consensus, but it was only talk. They truly celebrated teeth and violence.
